A substantial hand-blown Murano glass vase in layered shades of blue, its acid-etched surface creating the soft, grey-blue haze of mist over the Venetian lagoon.

Sold originally by Venetian retailer A.D. Murano Glass in St Mark’s Square and dating from around the 1970s, the vase has a wonderfully atmospheric quality. Its surface shifts from deep cobalt to pale, clouded blue as the light changes.

The rounded form and layered colouring bring to mind some of Tapio Wirkkala’s work for Venini, although the vase is unsigned and no designer is identified.

Heavy and beautifully made, with excellent depth and presence, it is equally striking displayed as a sculptural object or used as a vase.

Polished pontil to the base.

Condition:
Very good vintage condition with some light surface wear and scratches to the base consistent with age and use.
