A small cat with a rather splendid tail. Its tall, sweeping curve gives this mid-century ceramic figure an elegant silhouette, balanced by broad, pointed ears and a sleek, elongated body. The modelling is beautifully simple, with personality carried in the pose.

The deep midnight-blue glaze appears almost black in places, with an oil-slick iridescence revealing subtle green and violet reflections as it catches the light. Small white tips to the feet provide a delicate contrast. It would make a great ring holder.

Approximately 10 cm high and 10 cm long. In perfect condition. The base is unmarked, but attributed to Cmielow, Poland circa 1950's.

Collector’s Note

Much of the appeal of mid-century animal ceramics lies in their inventive treatment of familiar subjects. Exaggerated proportions and flowing outlines give these small figures their sculptural quality. Here, the sweeping tail is integral to the design, giving the whole cat a sense of balance and movement.
