Its rounded shape invites you to turn it in your hand and follow the pattern around the body.

Wheel-thrown in porcelain by California potter Louise Reding, a member of the San Diego Potters' Guild, this miniature bud vase owes its distinctive surface to crystals grown within the glaze during firing. Careful control of temperature gives them time to develop, although their final arrangement remains individual to each piece. That balance between the potter’s skill and the behaviour of the glaze is much of its appeal.

Signed “Reding” into the unglazed base. She went on to make crystalline-glazed porcelain the focus of her work, developing vase shapes specifically to accommodate the crystal formations. The rounded form and intricate surface are considered together from the outset.

https://eclecticdesignlondon.com/el/products/celadon-greenrystalline-crystalline-glaze-reby-artist-louise-reding-from-the-san-diego-potters-guild
